Literature Text

the ending of the world suprised us all
it crept in silently while we lay in quiet abandon
no time to prepare for the unmistakable screech of collapse
we became trash in the waves on a cold, empty beach.
unwanted paper tossed aside and forgotten with no opinion.
some clang desperate to religion, others politics, others wealth
but all were shaken, and nothing left intact
we had all seen war, it's familiar haunting face.
but this was no war
war is partial, however misguided always has a cause.
war is emotion, purposeful

some claimed it was God, moving his final hand of judgement
on a world that rejected all He had given us.
squandering love, like it was free.
"God moves in mysterious ways" they would say
but even they began to drop like flies when the bodies lined the streets
there was no God here, the realization set in,
no government to intervene, no rescue effort,
no cleanup project, no counseling for victims.
there was no God here, only we that remained
and the unavoidable empty that we became.

the earth was blinded by the light, made deaf by the sound,
muted by the blow to its neck.
left to exist as a rotating, floating mass of void.
sent back to its desolate beginning.
there was no thunder to bolster, lightening to flash
ground to shake. all was empty, purposeless.
how could it be that we were so wrong?
where has all uncertainty gone?
for a single drop of rain, i would slit my neighbor's throat.
not in crime, but in understanding -

this is our new life. we will exist, we will continue.
we all hope we're ready the next time they come.

Another wonderful piece from you! However, I stumbled over "clang desperate". I feel that maybe using "desperately" instead of "desperate" would help the flow, but that's just my own opinion.

There's some great imagery here, and it seems truly apocalyptic. Great work.
